Experiment and explore the process of innovation, product design and musical electronics creation! The Music Maker’s Workshop is a five-day immersive STEAM program where aspiring entrepreneurs, engineers, and artists like you come together to create simple electronic musical instruments by exploring connections between technology, music, sound, the visual arts, and movement. The program culminates in a master class by an internationally-known sound artist, who will perform for us and allow students to interact with custom-designed electronic instruments.
    • Learn how to write computer code and create musical patches in software environments.
    • Use hardware such as motion detectors and joysticks to integrate data into electronic instruments.
    • Reverse engineer audio signal processors, oscillators, and filters to better understand their design and function.
    • Integrate basic music theory concepts like scales, harmony, and dynamics into your designs.

Led by Duquesne Professors Dr. Paul Miller and Dr. Michael McMaster, this program is for anyone who has ever wanted to design a guitar pedal, synthesizer, or custom hand-held electronic instrument.
