Summer Band Symposium

The Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University is pleased to present the second annual Summer Band Symposium for Western Pennsylvania Music Educators on Thursday, July 6, 2023. Designed for elementary, middle, and high school band directors, this one-day event provides a forum for professional development, an opportunity to engage band colleagues within and across school districts, and dedicated time to review the latest in school band repertoire.

Our featured clinician for the 2023 Symposium is Dr. Mallory Thompson, Director of Bands at Northwestern University. To open the Symposium, we welcome the Pittsburgh Jazz Ensemble Little Big Band. And to close the Symposium, a newly commissioned Grade 2 band composition by Omar Thomas will be read and recorded by the Symposium Reading Band. Symposium participants will receive a discount direct from the publisher for the new work, and a copy of the Reading Band recording to take back to their schools for future rehearsals.
